Background
Per Johan Valentin Anger was born on December 7, 1913 in Goteborg,
Sweden. He began studying law at an early age, and eventually went
to the University of Stockholm and also, later, the University of Uppsala.
After his proper education at these schools, he was drafted into the army
in November 1939, the day after he graduated. Not long after, the Foreign Department offered him a trainee position in the Swedish legation in
Berlin, Germany. He arrived in Berlin in January 1940, after he had
finished his military commitment. His diplomatic career took off
from here.
